What is Title IX

Title IX was enacted in 1972 by President Richard Nixon. According to the Department of Education, “Title IX is No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.” It is a gender equity law that works to ensure that all students are safe and can live a college experience without fear. Part of that experience is to ensure that those who have been victims of sexual assault can take proper recourse against their perpetrators.
